Blackpool Fireworks Championship cancelled due to lightning storm

The Blackpool Fireworks Championship was cancelled at the last minute due to a lightning storm that made it unsafe to proceed. Organisers announced the decision around 8:30pm, just as the event was due to begin. The storm posed a serious risk to both the setup crew and the audience, forcing VisitBlackpool to pull the plug on the night’s show.

It was especially disappointing given that this year marked the launch of the Champion of Champions series, running from 2025 to 2028, with past winners returning to compete for a spot in the grand finale. The next scheduled round is set for Saturday, 27th September, weather permitting.
